What to do in and around Roč

Nestled deep in the karst hills of this beautiful Croatian peninsula, “Vela Stina” gives you a central base for exploring the stunning trails of Ćićarija mountain range, either on foot or with a bike, as well as for climbing the breathtaking rocks of Krkuž, Kompanj and Sopot (with its Pandora rocks), or paragliding from beautiful locations within the Buzet area.

Activities

  • Roč – grown out of an Ilyrian settlement, Roč is central to the cultural heritage of Croatia. Explore the narrow streets and stone houses of this charming Istrian town (Google Maps)
  • Aleja Glagoljaša – stone sculptures erected in fields and woods ont he way to Hum (the smallest city in the world) to commemorate the history of written language in Croatia (Google Maps). You can take a walk or a drive towards Hum and enjoy learning about Croatian culture and heritage
  • Kotli – settled on the Mirna river, Kotli (translated as cauldron) is a beautiful natural formation of cauldron-like kaarst stone forms. This is the staring point for a lovely walk to Buzet (Google Maps)
  • Trail of Seven Waterfalls – a walking trail from Kotli to Buzet and back, the Trail of Seven Waterfalls follows the river Mirna. (map at Istra Trails) Enjoy the beauty of the landscape while listening to the serene sound of the river Mirna.
  • Hum – when giants were building the towns around the river Mirna, they had some stones left over, and decided to build the smallest city in the world – Hum. A mere 7km from Roč, a walk to Hum through Aleja Glagoljaša can be an excellent way to spend the day (Google Maps)
